OuNa Curriculum Main Principles

Empowerment

Our unique OuNa curriculum empowers your child to learn and grow at their own pace.

Holistic Development

The children grow up and learn in a natural environment that supports their inner curiosities and view of the world.

Family and Community

A sense of belonging to a wider community is reinforced through the OuNa curriculum.

Relationships

Children learn best through compassionate, responsive play with other people, places, activities and objects.

Strands and Associated Goals

Strand 1
Well-being
The whole well-being of the child’s health is nurtured and respected.
Goal
Our children experience a safe environment, promoting their health as well as nurturing their emotional well-being.
Strand 2
Belonging
Extends from the children to the families fostering a sense of belonging.
Goal
Children and their families get to experience an environment where: connecting with family, friends and the wider world is offered and validated; they know that they have a safe place; they are at ease with the regular routines, customs, and activities; and they are accustomed to the limits and boundaries of acceptable behavior.
Strand 3
Contribution
Opportunities for learning are realized, and every child’s contribution is valued.
Goal
OuNa children experience an environment that promotes: opportunities for learning, regardless of gender, ability, age, ethnicity, or background; they are affirmed as individuals; and they are encouraged to learn together.
Strand 4
Communication
OuNa children are inclusive, learning the languages and symbols of their own and other cultures.
Goal
Children experience an environment where: Non verbal skills as well as verbal communication is learnt for a range of purposes. Through symbols and stories of multiple cultures they discover diverse ways to express their creativity.
Strand 5
Exploration
Children learn through active experimentation of their environment.
Goal
OuNa children are given the opportunity to play in an environment that encourages spontaneous play whilst gaining confidence and use of their bodies. Like a tiny scientist they learn strategies for thinking and active exploration of the natural and social world.
Strand 6
Nature awareness
OuNa Children respect through understanding the natural world around them.
Goal
Children learn how to care for and use natural resources around them. Activities include recycling, gardening, feeding animals and learning through sustainability.
We have a unique curriculum combining the very best practices of internationally recognised programmes like: Te Whariki from New Zealand, Reggio from Italy and the best practices of Scandinavian education.
A core principle is to educate children via the natural world: how nature works, our relationship with nature, sustainability, recycling and more.
Access to nature through our farm and garden builds trust, responsibility and fun! Children will care for the animals in every aspect. Daily observation and involvement in our fruit and vegetable garden will conclude with learning to prepare a meal from the harvest.
Putting into practice what we teach, materials used will be all natural. No plastic toys! We make handmade toys from natural resources around us like leaves, flowers, branches and wood. These are incorporated into classes of cooking, art, sport, dancing, music, Greek and lots more.
Our Dual language curriculum of English and German provides a great opportunity to absorb another language. Classes of max 16 children are cared for by 2 teachers, one of each language. Our little naturists are accepted from age 2 years onwards.
We prepare the children not only for entering pre-school after graduating kindergarten but also for life!
